Sparking Positive Change in Our Communities, Veritas Joins Pledge 1% Philanthropy Effort

November 4th, 2019

Veritas has always called the San Francisco Bay Area home even as we’ve grown into new markets. We put down roots here in 2007 and have been fortunate to live and work in this colorful, vibrant, and diverse community. Living in such an inspiring place fuels our desire to be a great neighbor – and affirms our long-standing commitment to making the areas we live, work, and play better and stronger.

From the beginning, we’ve been supporting organizations and non-profits which help the economic, social, and cultural prospects of those in need, and last year branded those efforts internally as Veritas Spark. Along with publicly unveiling Veritas Spark, we’re taking the ‘spark’ to a higher level by joining Pledge 1%. The Pledge 1% movement was started by Salesforce in 2014 and now includes over 2,700 companies. We’re proud to lead among the real estate community in joining Pledge 1%, but also hope to challenge our real estate firms to join as well.

Our team has always embraced a community mindset in our personal and professional lives: whether spearheading monthly company outings to serve lunch at St. Vincent, volunteering to beautify our parks, or making greeting cards and hygiene kits for distribution through Meals on Wheels and Larkin St. Youth Services, the Veritas team doesn’t just show up – we do so enthusiastically, in overwhelming numbers. We ask how we can be more involved and then organize opportunities for our family and friends to take part, too. It’s part of what makes us us.

Why the name, Veritas Spark? The name Spark reaffirms some of our foundational cultural values – to catalyze positive change and to ignite our commitment to giving back.

To further cement this responsibility, we have become one of the first real estate firms to join Pledge 1%. Founded under guidance from Salesforce’s Mark Benioff, Pledge 1% motivates companies around the world to donate 1% of product, 1% of profit and 1% of employee time to improve their communities, knowing that a 1% contribution today can have an enormous impact tomorrow. Over 2,700 companies in 60 countries have taken the pledge to date, and we are proud to join them.

Whether we’re volunteering for trash pick-up with Clean Mission, collecting and distributing clothing for La Casa de Las Madres, supporting non-profit housing groups with painting and repair projects, teaming up with the Red Cross to prevent home fires, or supporting great causes like New Story, City of Hope, and Huckleberry House, our own values seamlessly integrate with the Pledge 1% mission. We could not be more pleased to deepen our commitment to philanthropy and community service with Veritas Spark and Pledge 1% and hope to inspire other companies to do the same.
